Art has been a part of my life since I was a child. I have always battled with great resistance to practicing my craft. Peers would tell me I was talented, but I loved the praise more than I liked to creative process. I eventually adopted a terrible slogan, “I don’t like art, I just do it because I’m good at it.“
Even while obtaining my BFA in Fine Art at Truman State University (go dogs!), I was putting in only as much effort as was needed to remain in the top handful of student artists. After graduating, I did manual labor jobs for 4 years and began feeling like I was letting my gifts slip away. So in 2019 I got my ass in gear and quit my job in order to devote my full attention to developing my artistic abilities.
Art is my religion.
Life has been mostly uncomfortable for me, but art has provided me with a sense of purpose, and a means to finding inner peace. I truly make art for the sake of creating. My content varies from realism to abstraction, but I mostly enjoy painting whimsical characters in moments of calm because this keeps me calm. I know I have created a good work of art when it causes me to smile. I can only hope that my art provides you with an opportunity to smile too.
